Introductions
We are Neil and Isabel Paterson and we own Bothan a' Bhuachaille. We love hill-walking and many of our Scottish mountains have Gaelic names. Our wild, remote places are also dotted with bothies where walkers can find shelter. Our favourite hill near Aviemore is called Meall a' Bhuachaille.
In Gaelic a 'Bothan' is a small dwelling and 'Bhuachaille' is a shepherd. 'Bothan a' Bhuachaille' means 'small dwelling of the shepherd'. Bhuachaille is pronounced 'voo - ach - keel -yi'.
The Hut was built especially for us by Ben Moor at The Original Highland Hut Company. Ben has used several species of wood to build the hut including Douglas Fir and Spalted Beech. It's a beautiful creation.
Isabel is a Music Tutor and plays in the Animato String Quartet. She's also an On-Call Firefighter with the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service. You may see her rushing to respond to her pager.
Neil has retired after 20 years offshore as an Inspection Engineer. He now runs Bothan a' Bhuachaille and enjoys gardening. Apologies, but he doesn't wear his kilt everyday!
